I recently heard about a very cool major Hollywood film project that is doing something new and unique. They are asking for people all over the world to record and chronicle their lives on one single day: July 24th, 2010. From a selection of the video submissions they will make a film called Life in a Day that will be a global snapshot of life on earth for this one day.
Here is their summary of the project:
"Life In A Day is a historic global experiment to create a user-generated documentary film shot in a single day, by you. On 24 July, you have 24 hours to capture a glimpse of your life on camera. The most compelling and distinctive footage will be edited into an experimental documentary film, executively produced byRidley Scott and directed by Kevin Macdonald.
Every contributor to Life In A Day will be a part of cinematic history, participating in the largest crowd-sourced film ever made and creating a time capsule to show future generations what it was like to be alive on 24 July 2010."
This film will be featured at the Sundance Film Festival and be shown in theaters all over the world. This sounds pretty cool to me!
My real motivation for participating in this project is the fact that it is a GREAT opportunity for Sikhs to get positive exposure in a Hollywood production in a very unique and personal way. There are so many misunderstandings about Sikhs and this is a great opportunity for us show the world who we are as Sikhs, how we live, and how much we love and cherish life!
You don’t have to be a video professional either! They prefer you to submit raw un-edited videos of your most compelling footage during that day. You can upload multiple videos for different recordings.
So, the next thought that comes to mind for thinking about what to record on July 24th is:
I would like to invite and encourage you to think about this and hopefully participate in this project which as of today is less than 9 days away!
Plan ahead and think of some ideas of what you could record, and make sure you have a camera that can record video! Get a few friends together and brainstorm some ideas. Do it with your family or friends and make it fun……and most of all…REAL.
You should definitely read through the details on the YouTube Life In A Day section, as well as read through the Frequently Asked Questions about the project.
This type of project is totally in line with the SikhNet Youth Online Film Festival, so if you record something for "Life in a Day" you could use some of that same video footage and edit it into your submission for the SikhNet Youth Online Film Festival.
Please do post a comment here if you are going to participate! We could brainstorm together and share ideas. Also spread the word and click on the "Like" and/or ShareThis link below to spread the word!

when i heard about Life in a Day by Ridley Scott (two fav movies {gladiator and black hawk down}) i thought of Gurumustuk Singh and Sikhnet film festival how MrSikhNet has launched such a project so early and they are getting such ideas so late, i don't have camera except phone camera max 2MP but i would try to participate not in Life in a Day but Sikhnet film festival? sure!
