Peanut Hour

Peanut Hour

"By nature the Indian Woman is much more stable than the Western woman. Why? The only thing we could figure out is their peanut time.  There is a time between 2:00 o’clock and 4:00 o’clock when they all get together and gossip and eat peanuts.  Rich women in India have all the symptoms which are found in the Western woman because they don’t get to have that time.  Finally it was suggested for all the rich women to have a coffee time, so they made a coffee club.  It doesn’t matter whether you have a peanut time or a coffee time, for relaxation woman simply needs a gossip time.  It is their mental faculty that when they are within their own species, they can discuss any facet of life."

From the book Ancient Art of Self Healing which is a collection of excerpts from lectures, notes and classes by SSS Harbhajan Singh Khalsa (Yogi Bhajan)

Isnt gossip frowned apon in Sikhi, so why does it seem to be promoted in this article???????

If I am wrong then please forgive me but it seems to be saying here we wish we had time to gossip? We dont do british tea time so is this a good thing not to have social times made out for each day?

Khalsa is genderless and that means in the article men would “simply for relaxation need gossip time”?

    • I think what is meant is to have time for women to have “girl talk”. There is nothing wrong with that and is quite healthy. Gossip probably isn’t the best word.

  3. It is terribly important for women to spend time with other women, there are scientific studies that show, among other benefits, reduced blood pressure after just a few minutes. My day is always made brighter when I get to spend time with my girlfriends- my Khalsa sisters.

I think men are well served for some brother time as well. It would relax them- and get them out of their wives hair for a while.

ps I often get a little sad when a simple word choice is picked apart so unkindly. Of course gossip and slander are not being encouraged.
