SikhiToTheMax Version 2 Released

I’m sure most of you have been to a Gurdwara while Kirtan is being sung, and seen the Gurbani with a translation projected onto a screen. Isn’t this cool?? This is has changed the way that Gurdwaras in this modern age bring a deeper understanding of Gurbani to the sangat. In our Gurdwaras since the old days in the 70’s we didn’t have this and relied on hundreds and hundreds of shabad sheets which were put together, copied and then organized in file cabinets. They would then be handed out in the Gurdwara so that we could sing along with the Shabad and understand the meaning.

We have come a long way since then in the world! With the digitalization of Gurbani and various translations becoming available, the options for viewing and searching through Gurbani are limitless. What we can do and how we can view Gurbani is really only limited by our creativity and imagination…and taking the time to create something new.

One group of sevadhars has taken on this challenge, spending lots of time to create some awesome services; making Gurbani accessible in so many different ways. They started with the website which allows you to easily search for Gurbani Shabads with any computer connected to the internet and a basic web browser. They then released a software desktop version of SikhiToTheMax which allowed you to search and display Gurbani line by line in Gurdwaras. After that a PDA version was created so you could do Gurbani searches on the go…anywhere. I know of a few Ragis who use this cool tool.

It’s been a few years since the release of the initial SikhiToTheMax desktop software, and the Sevadhars have been back on the job working hard to create a new version with even more features and functionality for the Sangat. The new version has been officially released and is available for you all to download.

The new version is packed with lots of new features and a whole new user interface. Here are a few of the new features:

  • Interface has been changed to look like office 2007
  • Bhai Gurdas Jee’s Varan are now complete and corrected.
  • There is Compiled Bani option which includes Nitnem Banis and Sri Dasam Granth Banis
  • There is a Sri Dasam Granth Bani section, which includes fixes of the mistakes on online versions
  • Amrit Kirtan section has been updated
  • You can use your own Powerpoint slide
  • A Bisraam option has been added, so you know how to pause when reading Gurbani
  • Akhand Paath option has been enhanced
  • Hukamnamma option has been added and also Punjabi translations added
  • Tagging has been added
  • Creating PDF’s option is added
  • If you want to read the Bani joined up as it was originally written, you can have that option
  • When you view the Shabad you have the option to split view
  • You can save your searches
  • Several viewing options
  • Help section in English, Punjabi and PDF files to help in all areas of STTM 2
  • You can change the font size of everything in the Akhand paath mode and also other views.
  • Video tutorials and help options to show you how to use the program.

2020 Update:
SikhiToTheMax project is now maintained by Khalis Foundation.  You can download the it here or find out more on their website.

  1. Many, many blessings to the developers! This is a great moment in history and what a more perfect time for STTM 2 to arrive than the year of Infinity, 2008. May Guru and God continue to provide the strength and motivation to continue to develop Gurbani searching software! Also, during install of this software I have come across a problem. The installation process stalls on file "GoldGurbani.pptx". I've read on other forums people having the same problems. I'm running Windows XP SP2 with Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 installed. Is anyone else having this same problem and does anyone have a solution?

  3. Guruka Singh says:

Jasdeep Singh Ji – FWIW, I installed STTM 2 on two computers – XP Pro SP2 and Vista SP1 – both with Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 installed and both STTM installations went flawlessly. Have you installed all the .NET 1.1 patches and updates?

  4. Undoubtedly Good job !! But why is it not available on the sikhitothemax website?

  5. Thank you Guruka Singh Ji for helping fix my problem. The install went perfectly after upgrading .NET. Also, I had to Google "FWIW" – For What Its Worth – Hahaha! Just for everyone, below is what I did to fix the installation problem with STTM 2. For those that are struggling to install SikhiToTheMax II, upgrading your .NET Framework to the newer 3.5 might help! The installation is about 60MB in total, so you’ll need patience!Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5:Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Also, to reduce the load on SikhNet servers, below is a list of download mirrors. D. Singh- the same thing happened to me. You have to update to Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 (follow the link in Jasdeep Singh’s  comment). After I updated the installation took place very fast.

  12. A. Singh Ji you’ll have to be more specific of your problem. D Singh Ji read my post above regarding .NET. Sat Naam.

But every time I try to run the application I get an error with details as:STTM.exe – Common Language Runtime Debugging Services.Details of the problem are displayed as:STTM.exe – No debugger found. registered JIT debugger is not available. An attempt to launch a JIT debugger with the following command resulted in an error code of 0x2(2). Any idea how to correct this,As mentioned I have .net framework 1.1 installed and I am using Windows XP.Gur Fateh,Harmeet Singh

  14. Paramjit Singh says:

Please advice how this can work on a macbook as they only use the .dmg format and not the .exe format. Thank youWaheguru Je Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Je Ke Fateh

  15. sevatothemax says:

Gurfateh! Dear Paramjit Singh, There is no plans to release a mac version of STTM in the near future. If you use a Mac like I do, please use the parallel software which allows you to use MS Operating Software and you can install STTM on that. Regards and Gurfateh!

  16. sevatothemax says:

    Dear A.Singh,
Thanks you for your comments. This version is missing a huge amount of  Bani, however it takes a long time to input the Bani and additional information needed and we only work on the system when we have time.
This is a official release, The has the original link for the download at:  <a href="” target=”_blank”>….

  17. A.Singh says:

This version has the same flaws as the beta, eg Mehl instead of Mehla. The online one appears updated with the issues. Is the new version not official? It does not appear on the STTM site for download. Also lacks Bhai Nand Lal shabads.

On a positive note, it is an improvement and works in XP, with PPT versions 2002 and 2003 (tested OK as the makers state 2003). One file with .PPTX will not work in them but will in 2007 as it is the newer version. It also works with the beta version so no need to uninstall that.

  18. A.Singh says:

Thank you Sevatothemax for your reply. The new version shows 3 PPT files and one PPTX file. However, the video tutorial shows much more PPT files. Have these (PPT files) been removed from the release? Is it possible to have all the ones shown in the video tutorial sent by email or link for download? Is it possible to edit the issues and save (as you can in the beta version) but not sure in the new version? This is a positive feedback comment to be taken on board  for improvement. Without such feedback, the errors will be copied and cascaded by each person in the chain of its use and I am sure sevadars will welcome that. Thank you for the official link which did not appear on the STTM site.

  19. A.Singh says:

    Thank you S2TM……………
    God Bless You

Thank you also for all those who posted on their blogs and made others aware of the Software. FAO: Sevatothemax and SikhiToTheMax
I don’t know if anyone has come across another recent problem picked by a sevadar whilst using the new release. On page 773 the search results bring the Laav shabad (‘har pehilarree laav paravirathee karam dhrirraaeiaa bal raam jeeo’), starting with the first laav correctly. But when you click this, the display shows the third laav instead!?. Has anyone come across this? It now appears that the laav shabads have been ‘tagged’ incorrectly. The display does not match in the Akhand Paat nor PowerPoint displays. Further, the first page search starts with ‘hukamee outham neech hukam likh dhukh sukh paaeeahi’ and should start with Jap? Could you please look into this and respond. Thanks.

(Incidentally, the beta version shows the page 773 first laav matches correctly with the displayed shabad)

  26. SikhiToTheMAX says:

    Dear A.Singh
Fateh jee – this has been acknowledged – thank you for pointing it out.  This will be fixed this weeked and an autoupdate will fix the issue.  You will need to be logged onto the internet and allow STTM access via the firewall.  Will send an update shortly.

  27. Sukhpreet Singh K says:

WaheGuru ji ka Khalsa WaheGuru ji ke Fathae,
i had downloaded the Sikhi2theMax software a number of days back onto the vista system and made the suggsted file permission changes and now several days later i repeated get the following message appearing when i attempt to open the software: ‘Sikhitothe max has newer files and components available (1.74 MB). Do you want to download them?’   If i click no, then another message: ‘Unhandled exception has occurred in your application.  If you click Continue, the application will close immediately…..Could not open a connection. You do not have the relevent file permissions.’ it appears i have to keep making the necessary file permission changes each time i attempt to use the software, is there someting that i have missed or not done correctly ? WaheGuru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ke Fathae.

  28. SikhiToTheMAX says:

A new update has been published and it is recommended that you download it.    I have tested this on a Vista system and it worked fine without having to reset the permissions.  If you have given all users full access to the directory (as per instructions) then there is not reason for the permissions to keep resetting.

  29. sukh says:

    a few things I noticed:
    – the punjabi translation didn’t work with 6/7 shabads during a deevan.
    – when loading asaa di vaar, it takes a long time to load all of the slides.  (I’m not sure if this can be fixed)
    – It would be nice to go directly to the slide number in asaa di vaar.
    other than that, great software!

  30. A.Singh says:

Received update (Saturday 12/4/08) and ‘Laavs’ now updated. Many thanks to STTM for the prompt response.

  31. sukh says:

is it also possible to turn off the ‘random’ slide transition sequence and no have transition effect at all?

Do we have any STTM version which works on windows mobile 6 ? I recently purchased blackjack II and the old version of STTM doesn’t work with it.

  33. Proud (SIKH) says:

Yesterday, I was at the gurdwara and I noticed some problems with the backgroud drop and the text color, people were not able to read because the backgroud color is light purple with ek onkar and the text which was appearing was also light purple.

I hope they fix the problem, or just ask me for a new background.

    Proud (SIKH)

  34. A.Singh says:

Following on from D.Singh’s post, I too noticed that the install freezes at 12% on a new laptop, with Vista, and with .NET 1.1, and later the 3.5 already installed. Just thought I’d share how I got around this problem:

Ensured the .NET 1.1 etc installed. Downloaded the sttm.exe into a folder and then ran the program when it froze at 12% (internet was on).

As I had downloaded the sttm.exe on another XP machine where it worked OK, and saved a copy on a USB drive, I had the USB drive at the time and as the install froze at 12% on the Vista machine, cancelled the not responding (checked via Task Manager to confirm), and copied the sttm.exe program from the USB drive onto the Vista machine into a folder. I then ran it from there by double clicking it as usual, and yes it went past the 12% and installed without a glitch. Went through the usual prompts until a desktop was created. Double clicked the desktop icon to start the new sttm and it prompted to install the patch (1.74MB) which I did and all worked OK.
At 1024×768 setting, sttm goes off screen after it loads. You can manually resize it from the edges using your mouse, or change the settings (via properties on your desktop) to 1152×864, then back again to 1024×768 and it auto fits the screen!. Long winded but whatever suits the user.
    Hope that’s useful.
