Here is another great intiative that I just found out about from a comment in my last post about kids and school. It was really cool watching the below video and seeing the kids from South Africa doing yoga and chanting "Waheguru". In the video at one part they are chanting "I am Happy, I am Good, SatNam, Satnam, Satnam ji, Waheguru, Waheguru, Waheguru ji". It just shows how the Guru can touch people in so many different ways, whether they are a Sikh or not. It’s great to see creative ways of reaching out to children. We should come up with similar ideas for Sikh kids too :)
(Video background music, "Ang Sang Waheguru"…sung by the kids of Miri Piri Academy in Amritsar)

Beats and Breathing for Healing in Schools
A unique drumming and yoga initiative in South Africa
"TWENTY THOUSAND DRUMS and LITTLE GURUS in partnership have created a BEATS AND BREATHING FOR HEALING initiative to implement in schools in South Africa.
Due to the present teaching situation, which is in a state of crisis, we are providing two experiential and participatory activities, which give children tools to help them develop self-confidence, self-respect, and self-discipline. Learners need to be exposed to various art forms in order to make informed choices, which in turn create changes in attitude and builds a more civil society."
You can read more about this initiative, see pictures, support them etc at their website: http://www.20000drums.org.za/bbh/index.htm
WHat a touching and impressive film. I have been to South Africa and know of the poverty isolation and HIV aids that is pandemic there, espcially in the “Black” community.
This is truely a great service and I believe Siri Dharma Kaur who is an attorney is the one doing the teaching in this film. Good work and God bless you.
That is awesome.
That was absolutely beautiful. You are a true inspiration Dharma Kaur. I am truly inspired by all the work you are doing. I hope to find that song some day, it is beautiful too.
