Chardikala Jatha – Live at Harimandir Sahib – April 2nd

I just finished converting the two videos (from PAL to NTSC) of Chardikala Jatha playing kirtan at Harmandir Sahib so I could watch it on my home DVD player. I was going to post the video later on…but after listening to the earlier video from April 2nd 2006 I have been in bliss listening and had to share it with you all. Here I am on my laptop in the living room listening/watching since I can’t tear myself away. I like this video better than the one I posted earlier. They also played a bunch of shabads I haven’t heard them play before which is nice. This video was done in the evening right before Rehiras (evening) and the one that I posted earlier was from the morning so they are in different raags too.

It’s a nice way to spend a friday evening after a busy week. I feel that sigh of relief and peace this evening. Part of it is the feeling of joy of spreading the mission of the Gurus and being thankful to be a part of it. It’s awesome seeing so many friends of mine excelling and doing great things in the world (most of whom were classmates or I grew up with). It’s also exciting "building bridges" with Sikh youth from other backgrounds and working together. Building bridges of understanding, friendship and commonality. I’m excited to meet up with the Sikh youth that are coming to Espanola this summer! Plus I have the exciting arrival of a new child in my family somewhere around the end of June beginning of July. We’ll see how blogging goes after that since it will be a big change of pace for me.

Oh yeah…This is the video where some of the management thought my friend Siri Amrit Singh was a Girl because he doesn’t have much of a beard yet. You’ll see him playing the Tampura on the right and they zoom in on his face a few times.

Ok…I’m out. I hope you all are having a relaxing evening/weekend.

I wasn’t planning to post this video yet…so don’t have the normal windows media format for the video download (as well as an audio only mp3 file). I’ll post that next week when I am back in the office.

Download: Video (235MB) / Audio (57MB)

  1. Downloading the video right now… Will view it tomorrow. Thanx Bhai GMS. Btw, is it Tampura or Tanpura… I’ve heard of Tanpura which is also called as Tambura… Anyways, I’m not a musical guy, so may be I dont know what I am talking about.

Sat Sari Akaal Gurmustak ji, Thank you very much for posting the kirtan. i loved the first one, i listened to it the day you posted and since then i play it every morning when get up early to do some homework and while i get ready for school.
funny thing, today, i was sitting in my astronomy class and the teacher was lecturing, but guess what was going on in my head..the shabads !!! i mean like really, there was a bubble right beside my head where i could see the raagies and could clearly hear the baani being sung, i drifted away from class to Harmandir Sahib for a few minutes, and came back when Lynn (my classmate) elbowed me a few times. hehe.
i’ll listen to this now and i m sure it’ll just as good. hope i dont get in trouble in classes….hehe !!

  3. I buy Ragi DVDs so I see them singing instead of just listening to the CD. I have a bunch of them and I give them away to people once I know it too much then I buy a new one.
I would definitely buy a music DVD from ChardiKala Jatha. They should look into filming one and maybe having a special feature by having subtitles and then maybe I would keep them longer.Time for Kirtan Sohila.I only get 5hrs sleep a day.

  5. Fantabulous. Mesmorizing. Simply beautiful.

The Chardi Kala Jatha is indeed raising the bar of kirtania in Darbar Sahib. The glory is of the Guru. The blessing is upon the CKJ. They are fortunate…may they immerse themselves further in the Infinite Wisdom of Sabad!

    Gurumustak Jee,

Really enjoyed this and the last video of CKJ.

Downloaded the Quicktime video to watch.

BTW, there is no video after 29 minutes, just audio.

    Gurinder…

    Hi,
After listening to this jatha…. i can feel the lord all around everywhere and in every particle on earth.. in the trees the leaves in the humans around….Tuhi Tuhi tuhi tuhi…..i realize that the lord is not far the way i used to feel. I can feel him within……Good job to the CKJ…lord bless them to put us lost souls to the path we belong to. Waheguru je ka khalsa Waheguru je ki fateh..
