Espanola Street Signs

While we are on the topic of signs and highways, here is something related. Around the Gurdwara area we have some unique street names. Have a look! SikhNet’s street is “1A Ram Das Guru Place“. Watch the video and see some other the others :)

  1. So many streets named on Indian (east)/Sikh names. It is like in Vancouver where I ve heard that densely populated Punjabi areas have road signs in Punjabi under Standard English names. But I don’t know if Vancouver has so many streets with Indian/Sikh names.

I grew up on Khalsa Way, but we didn’t have the sign then. My mataji decided on this name and the neighbors agreed. It is a great road name.
Now I live on the first road in America. A road travelled by the Spanish when the first capital was established. It’s still not paved (though it needs to be).

    Khalsa way is cool.
Im the only Sikh in my town, I wish there were enough Sikhs to get streets named in this manner.

Pritam Singh, one of the reasons why I support Sikh sovereignty in South Asia is that it’ll enable us to name our streets and landmarks after our own heroes.

In Indian Punjab, a fair number of places are named after Gandhi, Nehru and their family members. One place that I know of is even named after Kamala Nehru (Nehru’s wife) who most likely never visited Punjab. How would people in France feel if their streets and landmarks were named after Nazi stalwarts?

  7. this is brilliant for the sikhs at raising awareness. nice blog.
