Ok, I just came across this video which is a bit unusual. I’m sure it might have controversial elements and things which could have been done/said differently, but thought others might still be interested in seeing it. These types of things just make us think about the issues, and figuring out the best way of presenting them. I think this was just an edited version of the full TV show by someone. I hope you all take it with a grain of salt….and an opportunity to think about all this stuff.
(PLEASE NOTE the video has some vulgar language and is not be appropriate for younger children).
It touches on the theme of people making fun of Sikhs (the turban and calling names like “Osama Bin Laden”).
Watch the video Here
(This is from a Showtime TV channel show called “Sleeper Cell“)
incredible…
it’d be interesting to note who made the video…
veerji, u back from singapore?
The role of the media is not only to record and report the reality as it exists but also to create it.
The Indian media gives so much coverage to the ‘mistaken identity’ problem of the Sikhs that my relatives in Punjab sometimes get worried and telephone me to see whether or not I’m safe. Some of them are paranoid having barely escaped the 1984 riots.
This is from the TV series “Sleeper Cell”.
SAT SHRI AKAL!!!
ITS REALLY ENOUGH OF EVERTHING.
PROBLEM WITH AMERICANS IS THAT THEY R SUFFERING FROM “ISLAMOPHOBIA”.
PEOPLE SAY AMERICA IS MOST ADVANCED COUNTRY BUT I FEEL RIDICULED WHEN I SEE THESE VIDEOS I FEEL AVERAGE AMERICANS R MOST IGNORANT AND ARROGANT PEOPLE.
I DONT KNOW WHAT TYPE OF EDUCATION THEY GET.THEY DONT EVEN KNOW ABOUT HOW MANY RELIGION R THEIR AROUND THE WORLD???
ATLEAT EVEN A AVERAGE PERSON LIKE ME KNOW ABOUT JEWS, PARSIS,SHINTOISM, CONFUCIIANISM, TAOISM ETC.AND THESE RELIGION DONT EVEN EXIST IN INDIA BUT ATLEAST WE READ ABOUT THESE IN THE BOOKS PRESCIBED IN OUR EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM.
NOT ONLY THE AMERICAN YOUTH EVEN THE AMERICAN LAW MAKERS, POLICE OFFICIALS, MEDIA PERSONALITY ETC.ALL SUFFER FROM THIS DISEASE.FOR THEM OSAMABINLADEN=ARAB=TURBAN AND BEARD.I DONT KNOW FROM WHERE THEY GET SUCH EDUCATION.
THESE FOOLS THINK THAT THE PEOPLE WHO WEAR TURBAN R TERRORISTS, SEE VIDEOS OF 911 THE PERSONS WHO WERE INVOVLED HAD SAME APPEARENCE AS AVERAGE AMERICANS
AND WHAT DOES THESE PEOPLE THINK THAT TERRORIST WILL COME TO AMERICA WEARING TURBANS AND ASK THESE PEOPLE TO KILL THEM.
I FEEL SORRY WHEN COUNTRIES LIKE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA WHICH BOOST OF BEING SUPER POWER, IDOL OF DEMOCRACY, WHERE THEY SAY THEY HAVE RULE OF LAW,FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS ALL SORT OF FREEDOMS ETC. CANT EVEN
STOP THE HARRASEMENT OF THEIR OWN CITIZENS.
IT REALLY HURTS WHEN U SEE PEOPLE BEING TARGETED DUE TO THEIR TURBAN AND BEARDS.
IT IS NOT AN EXCUSE BECAUSE OF OF UR SO CALLED IGNORANCE U CAN SHOOT ANYBODY, HARASS ANYBOY,MAKE MOCKERY OF ANYBODY ETC.
WE LIVE IN SAME WORLD AND IF PEOPLE
CANT RESPECT OTHER PEOPLE BELIEFS THEN I THINK THESE PEOPLE SHOULD REMEMBER “NEWTONS THIRD LAW”
AND EVEN WE CAN DO SAME THINGS WHAT
THEY ARE TRYING TO DO. WE R NOT EUNUCHS!!!
NOTE::HAVE U PEOPLE SEEN PROFILE OF MAN SAVING THE SIKH IF NOT SEE IT.

Hi Gurmustuk,
I saw the video and found it quite disturbing. It embarrasses me.
The guy who was defending the Sardarji told the hooligans that he was Sikh, that Sikhs are very different from Muslims. He then went on to say that the Sikhs have been “fighting the Muslims” for over 200 years (or something to that effect)
It seems to me, that the only reason given in the video for why the sardarji shouldn’t be attacked is that he’s not Muslim. The message the video sends is that if he was Muslim, the actions of the white guys would be acceptable. And that is very un-Sikh.
The comment that we’ve been “fighting Muslims for 200 years” effectively puts us on the attackers’ (the white guys) side.
The use of violence to solve the problem is another concern. Growing up as a minority in Singapore, I’ve seen too many young people use racism as an excuse for aggression. This video perpetuates this idea and encourages divisiveness among humanity.
We should be holding ourselves to a higher standard. This video doesn’t help. In fact, it makes things even worse.
Warmest Wishes,
Amrit Kaur

I saw this video yesterday and I found it interesting.
There’s one part that really ruins it, which says that Sikhs and Muslims are like crips and bloods and that we “…hate each other.”
Sikhs don’t hate anybody, that is against our relgion, and I think there are many Muslims who also don’t hate Sikhs.
Speaking of Sikhs in the media. I saw two commercials in a row last week that had a Sikh in it (or somebody dressed as a Sikh). I thought ‘what are the odds of that happening?’
The second commercial was a commercial for Microsoft, where they show people from around the world. It has a quick shot of a Sikh walking on the streets (presumably in India). The first commercial I saw was for some lame slapstick comedy with Leslie Nielson. At the end of the preview it shows Leslie Nielson punching a guy (who is dressed like a Sikh, but clearly has a fake beard). I thought that was weird. I almost feel like it is better that the media doesn’t mention us than mention something wrong.
Shinda Singh posted this a while ago also, the direct clip from the television show.

I agree with Prabhu. The video made me cringe. Especially the part about Sikhs “hating” Muslims. All it has achieved is making Sikhs and Muslims look like rivals, and it was just so overly dramatic and unreal that it was embarressing and no way near educational. Also, where is the Sikh mans self defence?? It makes Sikhs look weak and vulnerable……crazy video, and i think whoever made it should perhaps educate themselves before trying to educate others.
