Quote of the Day

Guru Har Rai was once asked whether there was any benefit gained by reading the Guru’s Bani without understanding it. “Yes,” he replied, “as grease sticks to the pot even when it is emptied, so does the Guru’s Word stick to the heart. Whether you understand it or not, the Word bears the Seed of Salvation. Perfume persists in the broken pieces even after the vase that contained it has been shattered.”

  1. This is a Quote well mentioned. To those who have doubts in their mind, this quote illustrates that even if one do not understand Bani, reading or reciting still has the effect. This effect may not be visible but it is there. Of course if one is reciting / reading Bani in the name of True Love for the Guru and Akaal Purukh.

You have to wonder though, by “not understanding it”, did the Guru mean that the words of gurbani went over their heads, or that it was totally in another language?

You have to wonder though, by “not understanding it”……..

Yes Anonymous, I dont understand a lot of the Bani and I dont have any problem in admitting that. And I also know that it was not another language…. All I know that Everyday, or rather every other day, the Guru makes me understand a line, or a word in the Bani. I am on the path of learning and with Gurus Grace, I get to understand what ever little Bani I can claim I know the meaning of. May be you are more enlightened than others…. Good for you…
