this practice of cleaning floor with milk, did it start from guruji’s time or more recently.
I dont want to sound cynical but to me it just represents another ritual and milk is not a disinfectant, rather promotes bacterial growth.
I agree with desi in that it is just an empty ritual. This is really not more than marble worship. Add to that the fact that women are not allowed to participate and you have something that has really strayed from the true meaning of Sikhi.
relax! let us understand that milk is the symbolism of purity and spirituality. We shouldnt always get carried away with the hue and cry of ritualism.
if killing bacteria was the only purpose then i wonder why our grandmothers didnt wash our hair with some disinfectant rather than milk and yogurt!
I guess washing hair with milk is a part of desi nuskha or medicine that people believed to help body.it has nothing to do with religion. This kind of superstitious rituals are quite widespread in indian society. The gurdti or honey thts given to newborns is another example of this even though paediatricians warn against this harmful practice.

I believe they use milk instead of water simply because in the old days “MILK” was considered to be a luxury, especially i you had enought to wash “things” with.
They do wash down with water afterwards.
Guru Ji is in some terms a King aswell, “Darbar Sahib”, only Kings have Darbars.
Although some do tend to do it as a ritual, espeically if our sisters are not allowed to par-take. I comepletely disagree with this False Bramhin type attitude.
Ahh well, Guru Ji is looking and justice will done soon.

the intent here is respect and love for the guru, which makes this practice pious.
