I visited Hemkund Sahib during 19th June to 28th June,2009 in a group of nearly 300 pilgrims from Delhi.I wish to share my experiences and critical comments with others .First of all my respects to the subedar major and other learned sikh leaders who located and established the resemblance shri Hemkund Sahib with the description by Shri Guru Gobind Singh ji in ‘Bachittar Natak ‘.The 19 kilometre of the distance to be covered on foot/horses/sherpas is not built/maintained properly. The Govt of India/Govt of Uttrakhand tourism department have done nothing to improve the conditions. The chief minister of uttrakhand enjoys the reputation of having built the Golden Quadrangle of National High way and inspite of the Prime Minister’s program of Grameen Sarak yojana, this distance of 19 kms present a miserable sight. The bridge on the river is most dangerous and it collapsed during our visit and we were held up.Good sense on the part of the pilgrims prevented a stampede otherwsie in the stampede large number of persons would have been drowned in the river. The number of pilgrims and other tourists to valley of flower exceed more than a lakh,I guess. On the way there is no medical emergency, although one is available at Hemkund Sahib. The environmentalists may note that the number of dustbins on the route are very meagre and the garbage can be seen here and there.
The sikh pilgrims should especially note that the Yatra management trust does not provide repeat does not provide any facility enroute, the facilities provided at the Gobind Ghat and Gobind Dham Gurudwara are far repeat far from satisfactory.Even the poorest of the poor sikh pilgrim makes a donation and our entire group was wondering as to how this huge donation, amounting to several crores of rupees every year is spent.I wish some Godly sant like Baba Harbans Singh of Delhi or others may step in and sikh pilgrims should offer the donations to them and not to the existing managemnt .I write with a heavy heart that the existing arrangemnt is bringing a bad name to the sikh community because sikhs are not the only visitors to Hemkund Sahib.
hemkunt sahib is my dream i want to go just once in my life &do "sewa" there
