Stories from 1984 and Akal Takhat

Today we all remember the days around June 6th 1984 when thousands of innocent Sikhs were killed and the Akal Takhat was Martyred. Every 6th day of the month we gather in our sangat for a special Gurdwara to remember the sacrifices that were made during this time.

Tonight in Gurdwara Shanti Kaur told some inspiring and educational stories related to the events before, during, and after Operation Blue Star. As she told the stories I was transported to another time, and listened with all my full focus, trying to hear all the details. I was living in India at the time, but I was still young and didn’t understand the extent of what was going on.

Akal Takhat and Deathlessness

In this video Shanti Kaur shares some inspiring words. She talks about the Akal Takhat and how it was attacked by the Indian Army June 6th, 1984 and thousands of Sikhs were brutally killed. She explains why many of us celebrate this day as the Martyrdom of the Akat Takhat and gives an explanation about why. She talks about Guru Gobind Singh and the concept of death and fearlessness. For me this was very inspirational and gave me a very different perspective on fear and death. Have a watch below: 

The Singhnia (Sikh Women) of Guru Gobind Singh

During the Jaap Sahib course here in Espanola, New Mexico Shanti Kaur Khalsa taught an inspiring class titled "The Singhnia of Guru Gobind Singh". This was a 1.5 hour class which might be a bit long for you to watch at a stretch so I have taken this class and edited it into different portions and topics. The following is a video of Shanti Kaur talking about the power of woman and the Sikh women from the time of Guru Gobind Singh.
