Summer Solstice 2008 Pictures

Sunrise at Summer Solstice

This past week I was at Ram Das Puri, which is in the mountains above Espanola, New Mexico for the 3HO Summer Solstice Sadhana Event. Every year in mid june people from all over the world and from many backgrounds and religions come together for this beautiful spiritual event. It was an amazing week! This year I think there were around 2,000 people who attended! Having this mix of people really makes it interesting.

I like to think of the event as the "pressure cooker". In this short week people are "cooked" in this speed "cooker" and uplifed and changed. From early morning till late at night there are so many things going on. You don’t have the normal luxuries of your home but it doesn’t seem to matter. Camping out in the high desert mountains of Espanola, New Mexico in this "mini city" for the week is a real experience which can be challenging at times. Wether you are a movie star, high profile CEO, or just a restaurant dish washer, everyone has to go through the same thing. It is such an equalizer, and wordly status doesn’t seem to stand at all here. Everyone is just another spiritual seeker working on themself in some form.

Sunrise Pictures in Espanola with Hari Bhajan & Sat Hari

This past Saturday morning after Sadhana myself, Hari Bhajan Kaur and Sat Hari Singh (Germany) walked up onto the top of one of the hills which is near the Gurdwara. Our purpose was to take some pictures which Sat Hari Singh could use in a German promotional booklet for his new CD called "Servant of the Heart".

We couldn’t have asked for a better morning since it had just rained a lot the night before and there were still clouds in the sky as the sun peaked over the horizon. It was so beautiful! I love taking pictures! Especially when there are good environments/lighting. After we were done we munched on German chocolate and talked about how we should plan something in the future to have Kirtan/Meditation up on this hill another time. There is nothing like being outside in the fresh air with beautiful environments and meditation!

(Ps. If you want to see the pictures properly, click on the picture and then when you are on flickr click the option that says "All sizes" which is on the top of the picture)

Charanjeet Kaur - 15 months

Well, Narayan is older now (6 yrs) and won’t let me get picture of him that often, so all the pictures these days seem to only be of Charanjeet Kaur.

Charanjeet is 15 months old and is running all over the place. She is a pretty smart kid and remembers lots of things. A few of  her latest words that she says often are: Ek Ong Kaar, Kanga (the comb), Wazo ("bird" in french), Naris ("nose" in spanish). Whenever she sees a picture of one of the Guru’s she says "ekongar". She loves pictures so much. Also, whenever she sees a picture of a baby (or her brother), she get’s soo excited (bubbling with joy)!

One funny thing is that, no matter how much I try to have her call me "Papa" she always calls me "Mamma" (mother). So I guess I am momma #2. She knows me as papa….but she won’t call me by that name. I’ve started to get used to being Mamma. So, if you are with me and hear hear shouting for Momma then know it might be for me.
