Man Jeetai Jagjeet - Conquer Your Mind & Conquer the World

This past week I have been thinking a lot about my recent blog posts which are on the topic of judgment and the mind. Then on Sunday I was looking through my videos at home and came across an old video tape of a class taught by SSS Harbhajan Singh Khalsa (Yogi Bhajan) during Summer Solstice of 1987 (almost 21 years ago!). For some reason I was compelled to watch it. It had been sitting in the cupboard for so many years and for some reason today I noticed it and felt like watching it.

As soon as I started watching the video I was surprised to find that the lecture covering many of the very topics that I was just blogging about, in relation controlling your mind, religion, self discipline, intuition, love, and spirituality. As Guru Nanak Dev ji wrote: "Man Jeetai Jagjeet"; By conquering the mind you conquer the world!

Winter Solstice (Florida)

Thanks to technology….I can be in my tent on a computer by the lake at the "Circle F dude ranch", and listen to SikhNet Radio while I post this online.  Here I am in Florida at the Winter Solstice camp with my son Narayan, along with about 500 other people. Narayan has been having such a fun time. By the time we get back to our tent at night he is fast asleep within seconds. Tomorrow will be another fun filled day for him again.

It’s been great here meeting with so many new people and having lots of time to meditate and relax. Here are a few pictures that I took from the past day or so…

The lake at sunset…

Quote of the Day: Seva - Selfless Service

"You do good to somebody, it remains good if you do it in the name of your own God. That is a seva. If you do it in the name of your own spirit, your own soul, that is seva. If you do something expecting something tommorow,  you better not do it. It’s not worth it. It’s not seva. Seva is a conscious and deliberate service to benefit another person, even at your cost. Remember, whosoever does seva it is one to a hundred, God comes through."

"Seva and Simran go together, you must serve people. You can only serve people if you are mentally very steady; You can take pressure. Somebody is in trouble and you want to uplift that person. How can you uplift that person if you cannot uplift yourself." - SSS Harbhajan Singh Khalsa

What is Kundalini Yoga and The Benefits?

Here are three videos with Gurucharan Singh Khalsa, Ph.D., (Director of Training at Kundalini Research Institute - KRI) on the topic of Kundalini Yoga. In the first video he talks about the benefits of practicing Kundalini Yoga. The second video is more of an explanation of What Kundalini Yoga is; and the third video he explains the difference between Kundalini Yoga and other types of yogas.

Angsung Wahe Guru

Yesterday in Gurdwara Ek Ong Kaar Kaur sang beautifully from her heart to the few of us that were there at the start. I always love to get to Gurdwara first thing because so that I can listen to all the kirtan, and that is when it is the most quiet and easy to meditate. Some of you might remember Ek Ong Kaar Kaur who is a guest blogger on MrSikhNet.com and always writes very interesting and thought provoking things. You can check out her blog and listen to her beautiful voice sing "Ang Sung Wahe Guru"  (God is  in every  limb/part of my body)

Success in Relationships

By Shakti Parwha Kaur Khalsa
from Aquarian Times Magazine (Sept 2007 Issue)

An exchange takes place - a communication of looks, words, touch, even fragrance-a connection is made, subtle or overt. A relationship has begun. Just as the secret of success in Real Estate is "Location, Location, Location," in relationships it’s "Communication, Communication, Communication."

The challenge is to remember that although we are all "homo sapiens," males and females of this species usually have vastly different expectations, attitudes, and abilities when it comes to communicating. Understanding and respecting the other person’s perspective, even if you don’t agree, and being willing to listen are essential if you want a harmonious relationship-with anyone!
