SikhNet.com Version 2

You might have been wondering what has been going on with me and why I haven’t been posting much on MrSikhNet.com in recent months. I know I used to post something almost every day, but for the past 2-4 months I have been deep in planning and development of the new SikhNet website. It takes quite a bit of time and work to create a professional website with all kinds services. Also, it is no small task to migrate SikhNet over to a whole new system (which is what we are doing). If we had a staff of 10 people this might go quicker but that isn’t the case for SikhNet so things can take time.

I was calling this new site SikhNet 2.0 but, I guess SikhNet is way past version 2 since we have gone through many revisions over the past 11+ years. It is however a big change from our current system which has been the same for many years, so this is a big step.

SikhNet Video Shoot

Well, we now have the "SikhNet Video Studio" setup! A generous Sikh donated funds to pay for new video/lighting equipment. Someone in our local community had a small storage room that they were not using so we turned it into our "studio". The room is a bit narrow but it’s much better than jumping through hoops filming in the SikhNet office (which is even smaller).

SikhNet DVDs and Gurbani Audio CDs Now Available!

In 2007 SikhNet produced quite a few different media products which include the, "Inspiration Series" of short videos (many with Guruka Singh) that we have shown on SikhNet over the past few years, as well as 2006 and 2007 SikhNet Youth Online Film Festival DVDs, and the "SikhNet Gurbani Collection" Audio CD of some of our favorite Gurbani. These are really great products and I highly recommend them all :)

These items were previously only available to SikhNet donors, and are now available for general purchase online. These are great gift items and allow you to enjoy high quality content in the comfort of your home. Plus, all profits from the purchase go to support SikhNet. So, don’t wait, by one….or buy the whole set for your collection, and enjoy!

Punjabi - Gurmukhi Calligraphy?

Are any of you good with writing stylized Punjabi/Gurmukhi? We would like to make a "regal" Gurmukhi font that is prettier than the standard GurbaniLipi. In order to do so we could use some help from someone that can do calligraphy and write out each of the letters of the Punjabi Alphabet in this way. If you are able and interested in helping out let me know.

SikhNet Everywhere

For those of you who have been procrastinating about supporting SikhNet, Here is another short video (1 min. long) highlighting the many services that SikhNet offers (with an introduction by Guruka Singh). After you watch the video…the question is "what choice are YOU going to make?" In case you missed the last video you’ll know what I mean when you watch the funny "SikhNet Choices" video.

I know some of you might be tired of all this fundraising-shmun-raising stuff, but as a non-profit organization we do rely on your financial contributions to grow and provide the many services that SikhNet does. So, at this time of year from Nov-Jan we ask for your help. I hope you will consider supporting SikhNet with a recurring monthly donation (in any amount) instead of a one time donation too. This ensures that SikhNet gets regular ongoing support and we are able to spend less time fund raising and more time working on SikhNet services. (Plus, if you make a monthly donation of $20 or higher you can choose one of the donor gifts!

Make a Donation to Support SikhNet

Ps. In case you don’t see the mysteriously missing button that Guruka Singh pointed to in the video, then don’t worry, you haven’t lost your mind. The button is currently MIA…so till we find it… you can click on the above link to donate to SikhNet.

Pps. Oh yeah… and THANK YOU to all of you who have made contributions to SikhNet! It is greatly appreciated and will only return back to serve you more!

New SikhNet Radio Channels

SikhNet RadioThis past week we added two new SikhNet Radio Channels to the lineup! You can now listen to Channel 4 which is non stop Vaheguru Simran and Channel 5 which is continuous Akandh Path from Siri Guru Granth Sahib (followed by Arti and Shabad). Check out these channels as well as the many other live SikhNet Radio Channels.

SikhNet Choices

Here is the latest in the SikhNet FUN-Raiser. This is a fun video that me and Gurujot Singh put together. The video is a spoof on Gurujot’s video titled: "Choices", and was a submission for the 2007 SikhNet Youth Online Film Festival.

Many of you have been browsing SikhNet.com and seeing the different messages throughout the website asking for your support. This video plays upon the story of an "every day Sikh" browsing SikhNet and a few choices that he has when he comes to the website and see the fundraiser messages.

We had fun making the video, and hope that it brings a smile to your face (and of course encourages you to support SikhNet!)

SikhNet - Spreading Sikhi One Click at a Time

My thanks to Jasmeet Singh Bansal from PA, USA. (2006 & 2007 Winner of the SikhNet Youth Online Film Festival) for making this video.

Mega Media Production, Fundraising & Vacation Plans

Things have been a little quiet on MrSikhNet.com, probably since most of my blog posts lately have been related to the SikhNet fundraiser and asking for your support. You know though, it doesn’t matter how much you contribute. Even $5/month counts more than you know. We are trying to reach our goal of $3,000 in new monthly donors to SikhNet and are about half way there!! Check out the "Nihang Singh Mathematics" Blabber.

I am so grateful to all of you who have answered the call for Support and have donated whatever you can afford, so that SikhNet can grow and continue to uplift people all over the world! If you have been thinking about making a donation to SikhNet but have been avoiding it, don’t hold back and just give from your heart whatever you can. When you give, it creates a flow of prosperity that comes back to you many fold!

I haven’t had much free time these past few weeks since we started the SikhNet annual fundraiser. Me and Gurujot Singh have been working on finalizing the new 5 DVD set of "SikhNet Inspirations" videos.  It can take a lot of time to put together a professional quality DVD (video editing, DVD production, designs, duplication, etc). We should have them done by monday (Yaay!!) and then we send them to the duplication company. As soon as we review a proof of the DVDs we will start mailing copies out to some of the SikhNet Donors.

At the same time we also produced the 2007 SikhNet Youth Online Film Festival DVD (which this year will be a two DVD set because we had so many video submissions!). We also put together the new graphics for the 2006 Film Festival DVD and will make this DVD also available!

Then we produced a new SikhNet Special Edition Gurbani Audio CD to have as another donor gift choice. So, we have just about completed producing EIGHT NEW DVDs and one new audio CD! We are excited!

I’m also excited because earlier this week I got a phone call from a generous Sikh from California who is donating the funds to pay for most of the photo/video equipment that SikhNet needs! I thought it might be like last year where no one donated towards the equipment. I guess Guruji had other plans :) Now all we need is a video editing workstation and a room here in Espanola where we can setup the "SikhNet Video Studio".

As you can see we have been up to our turbans in media the past two month in addition to fundraising, and all the normal SikhNet work!

Thanksgiving Holidays are just around the corner, so we’ll all get a little break to relax with the family (and for me to be off the computer, which I really need since my wrists and other body parts have been acting up lately). I’m going to the 3HO Winter Solstice Retreat in Florida next month (Dec 19 - 25 with my son Narayan), so I’m looking forward to that time to relax and get some spiritual rejuvenation. Then after that I’ll have some time with Arjan and some of her family doing vacation type stuff in Florida. Aaahh. I can’t wait. I love working….but then again I love having vacations. I remember last year when I was in florida doing the same type of things, walking around with my laptop open in search of a WiFi internet signal, so I could check email. It was quite a cat-and-mouse game as the wireless signal was faint. This year I’ll be trying out the broadband service from my cell phone company. If it works, I’ll have to be disciplined to just check on things and not "get to work" on my vacation!
