The Baisakhi celebrations were yesterday were wonderful! It started with a delicious breakfast for the whole sangat hosted by Bibiji Inderjit Kaur at the Ranch and then from there we had a larg Nagar Kirtan procession all the way to the Gurdwara. Summer Solstice Sadhana Camp 2008

Spring is here and summer is just around the corner! Summer time in Espanola has so much energy and there many different events that happen in the summer and lots of people coming from all over the world. I’ve blogged over the years about one of the events which is called "Summer Solstice Sadhana" and many people have expressed interest in coming. This is a full week Spiritual camp (June 19 – June 28) where over 1,500 people from all over the world and all different religious backgrounds come together to meditate, pray and uplift each other. It’s a truly unique event that I never miss. At SikhNet we close the offices for the week and we all participate. I find that it is a recharge for the soul and helps carry me through the year.

If any of you have been thinking about coming to the Summer Solstice event and are not able to pay the normal registration fees you can sign up for one of the financial aid scholarships which is a discounted price based on financial need and also a service scholarship which is even less. Applications for financial aid scholarships are due by April 15th and only a limited number of scholarship applications are given.

Please come…If you feel called to join us this summer for a totally different experience!

Also check out Khalsa Youth Camp which happens after Summer Solstice and is a great camp for the younger kids. My son goes to it every year and I used to go when I was younger too!

Join us June 19 - 28, 2008 and participate in this awesome event that is sure to give you a totally new experience, along with many familiar ones! (If you plan on coming let me know :)

 By Tommy Rosen (Bhagat Singh)

It is 2:45 a.m. during the week of Summer Solstice in the mountains outside of Espanola, New Mexico, and I am awake in a tent watching my wife, Kia, sleep for a few moments longer.  This is the third year that we have come to this powerful land with well over a thousand people, Sikhs and non-Sikhs alike, from all over the world.

Any minute now, a man with a long, white beard, wearing a turban and playing a guitar, will walk every inch of this land repeating his early morning wake-up song, “Rise Up,” at the top of his lungs.

Face Painting

Today was my day to help with the kids camp and I had a lot of fun doing all kinds of things with them. In the evening as we all were sitting around enjoying a nice hot cup of golden milk and listening to some jamming tunes at the "Yogi Tea Cafe", Narayan and I sat next to this very nice lady who was painting people’s faces. Narayan asked her to paint a Dragon on his face which she did beautifully….and then all the other kids wanted to get painted too. Here are some pictures from tonight with Narayan, Gurudev Singh and Prabhjot Singh.

Winter Solstice (Florida)

Thanks to technology….I can be in my tent on a computer by the lake at the "Circle F dude ranch", and listen to SikhNet Radio while I post this online.  Here I am in Florida at the Winter Solstice camp with my son Narayan, along with about 500 other people. Narayan has been having such a fun time. By the time we get back to our tent at night he is fast asleep within seconds. Tomorrow will be another fun filled day for him again.

It’s been great here meeting with so many new people and having lots of time to meditate and relax. Here are a few pictures that I took from the past day or so…

Snatam Kaur’s New Album and Benefit Concert

I just got a copy of the new Snatam Kaur Live in Concert Album today and as soon as I got home I started watching the DVD 45 min video documentary (Path of Peace) which is part of this album. It was so inspiring to watch and see the "behind the scenes" of the Celebrate Peace Tour (Snatam Kaur and company) which meant to bring peace to people all over and from all backgrounds. Narayan snuggled up on the couch as I held Charanjeet Kaur in my lap sitting on the floor. The sounds and music made everyone (including Charanjeet) quite and relaxed. It was quite nice.

I then embarked on the next phase of my evening relaxation listening to the Audio CD of Snatam Kaur Live in Concert. I still had my parental duties to take care of so while listening to the CD after dinner I got the kids in the bathtub, cleaned them off, gave Charanjeet her nightly massage and dressed in pajamas. Near the middle of the CD when the kids were all taken care of I put on my wireless headphones and got "in the zone" lying on the couch listening to the music. All I can say is "aaaaahhhhhh". I melted away.

So, if you don’t have a copy of this new album head on over to SpiritVoyage.com to get one! (If you order before Oct 26th you can 20% off if you use the promo Code: autumn17 at checkout)

In related news: On Oct. 30th here in Santa Fe, New Mexico Snatam Kaur will be performing at The Yogi Bhajan Library of Teachings Benefit Concert and CD Release Party! (Even if you are not local this might just be a great chance for you to come visit us!)

Guru Ram Das Ji Gurpurb Celebrations

This morning starting at 4 AM the sangat did 2.5 hours of chanting the Dhan Dhan Ram Das Guru Shabad. This was in celebration of the Birthday of Guru Ram Das ji. As always it was a beautiful and meditative morning. For the past two weeks or so in preparation there has been nightly Gurbani kirtan at different people’s house from the Sangat. Every evening the sangat goes to someone else’s house and we all chant, meditate and then eat together. It’s such a cozy and nice time for everyone to come together.

Here are a few pictures from this morning…

JAITSREE, FOURTH MEHL, FIRST HOUSE, CHAU-PADAS:
ONE UNIVERSAL CREATOR GOD. BY THE GRACE OF THE TRUE GURU:

The Jewel of the Lord’s Name abides within my heart; the Guru has placed His hand on my forehead. The sins and pains of countless incarnations have been cast out. The Guru has blessed me with the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and my debt has been paid off. || 1 || O my mind, vibrate the Lord’s Name, and all your affairs shall be resolved. The Perfect Guru has implanted the Lord’s Name within me; without the Name, life is useless. || Pause || Without the Guru, the self-willed manmukhs are foolish and ignorant; they are forever entangled in emotional attachment to Maya. They never serve the feet of the Holy; their lives are totally useless. || 2 || Those who serve at the feet of the Holy, the feet of the Holy, their lives are made fruitful, and they belong to the Lord. Make me the slave of the slave of the slaves of the Lord; bless me with Your Mercy, O Lord of the Universe. || 3 || I am blind, ignorant and totally without wisdom; how can I walk on the Path? I am blind . O Guru, please let me grasp the hem of Your robe, so that servant Nanak may walk in harmony with You. || 4 || 1 ||  Page 696
