I came accross this little "ad" tonight on simmal tree’s flickr photos. It’s cool how he uses the image like an "Advertisement" to visually convey the message. Here is another one:

I have been having problems with my internet connection at home for the past few days so haven’t been able to post anything on the blog, however I have been quite busy at the office! A few weeks ago I was feeling a bit dissapointed regarding the SikhNet Youth Film Festival. All of us at SikhNet put in a lot of time and effort to promote and encourage youth to get involved and make a video and we had only received a few submissions. My wife just kept telling me…to wait till the end….wait till the end..and she was so right.
The deadline for submitting a video is tonight (Aug 31st) and it seems like everyone is waiting till the last MINUTE to submit their video! Everyone must have been procastinating till they HAD to get busy with their poroject. Just last night we got about nine video submissions! It’s really exciting to review the videos and see the time and effort that everyone put into their videos. There is quite a variety and submissions from all over the world.
Right now I am in the process of editing and processing them to get them ready for display online. I am hoping to post them up tommorow…but we’ll see how things go.
The Judges for the competition will be people who have background in acting/creating films/documentaries,etc. None of us at the SikhNet office will be official judges. So far our confirmed judges are Waris Ahluwalia who was an actor in the American movie: "Inside Man" (A Spike Lee Movie with Denzel Washington, Clive Owen, Jodie Foster and others) and "The Life Aquatic" with Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, Cate Blanchett, and others). We also will have Ish Amitoj Kaur who produced the film "Kambdi Kalaai" and Our third Judge is Sartaj Dhami (Dasmesh Pictures) who has produced many great independent videos promoting Sikhi. We might have a few more judges…but I am still working out the details.
I’m pretty excited and looking forward to sharing all the videos and creative talent that so man Sikh Youth have put into the SikhNet Youth Online Film Festival.
More to come in the next day or so! Back to work….
If you listen to normal FM radio you have probably heard radio stations that have a "request line" where you can telephone/SMS/email in and ask the DJ to play a certain song live on the radio.
A few months ago we added a new feature to SikhNet Radio which allowes you to see the artist and shabad name that is currently playing. We used to get many people that would listen to SikhNet Radio and wonder what they were hearing.
The latest improvement on SikhNet radio is a cool feature to be able to actually make a request of something that you would like to hear on SikhNet radio. We have setup a cool interface for you to browse by Musician/Artist or do a search. When you find a shabad you would like to hear on SikhNet Radio all you need to do is click on the name and it will then be put in the "Queued Requests" to be played. If there are no other requests ahead of yours in the queue then it will play immediately after the current shabad finishes. Your request will then be heard by all listeners of SikhNet radio!
Want to Try it Out? Make a Radio Request Right Now
We are also testing out a much higher quality 96Kbps audio stream for those of you that have broadband (fast) internet, which enable you to hear much higher quality sound when listening to SikhNet Radio. If you do try it out drop me a line and let me know how it sounds. I am interested if the audio gets "choppy" frequently when listening.
In case you missed the info earlier: If you have a blog/website, you can add a small SikhNet Radio website player to allow your visitors to hear SikhNet Radio while surfing on your web.
SikhNet Radio is one of the first internet Gurbani broadcasts and has been going 24 hours a day since 1996 when I used to manually play CDs and tapes at my desk during the day while I was working. Nowadays you will hear from a selection of hundreds of musicans and thousands of Shabads.
This past saturday evening on August 26th hundreds of people celebrated the birthday of Siri Singh Sahib Bhai Sahib Harbhajan Singh Khalsa (1929 – 2004) here in Espanola, New Mexico. This has always been a big grand celebration for all those that knew him. It’s also a time that many of the local community who are not Sikhs have a chance to interact with the local Sikhs and learn more about us.
Yogi Bhajan helped change many thousands of lives over his lifetime. Many people like myself wouldn’t be a Sikh if it were not for him. He spent is whole life serving; even during his last days on this earth before he passed away. He was definitely a unique soul, and I am forever gratefull for all that I learnt from him which I now try to share with you through this blog. If you would like to know more about Siri Singh Sahib you can read some info here or watch this video
Tonight I would like to share another new video by Sat Bir Singh, which is in memory of Yogi Bhajan, and was shown at the Birthday Party on Saturday. Sat Bir Singh also submitted the video into the SikhNet online Youth Film Festival along with his previous video “Priceless“.
Just in case you are thinking of sending in a video for the SikhNet Online Youth Film Festival, this thursday, Aug 31st is the submission deadline. If you have been stalling creating your video…you still have a couple of days to put something together! So Do it!
