With regular practice of this kriya, you will start hearing the inner voice, knowing exactly what is being said inside.
"Tune in" with the the Adi Mantra (Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo) – 3-5 times.
Posture: Sit straight in a cross-legged position. Place your hands over the ears with the thumbs stretched forward under the jawbone.
Eyes: Eyes are closed.
Mantra: Pull up the navel on each word as you chant the mantra, Sat Siri Siri Akal, Siri Akal Maha Akal, Maha Akal Sat Nam, Akal Murat Waheguru (the music used in this class was from Raga Sadhana by Sangeet Kaur and Harjinder Singh or you can listen online). Be straight and be positive. Try to hear the inner voice. Continue for 31 minutes.
To end: Inhale deeply, hold, and press your ears as hard as you can. Exhale. Repeat one more time. Then inhale deeply again, hold, and keeping the hands over the ears, rock the body from side to side 2 -3 times. Relax.
If you feel dizzy after doing this kriya, drink water to come into balance.

When I read the article it states, “Pull up the navel” – is that talking about breath of fire?
you should not close your ears (sit in alone and quite place if there`s loudness outside ) . hands should be in gyan position .

You are doing very good job indeed by describing different methods of mediation for different needs. I like most which our beloved Guru Nanak Dev describes:
Shabad Guru Surt Dhun Chela
Our Guru is Shabad, which is also guru of all the ten gurus as well as all the Avtars who come to this world, because any body on the earth can explain, tell his views with the help of Shabad. '
We should fully concentrate on the dhuni of shabad/mantra; rest all will be done by our Guru ji.
