Guru Gaddi Day in Espanola New Mexico

Today we celebrated the 300th Anniversary of Siri Guru Granth Sahib in our own small and humble way with a Nagar Kirtan and Gurdwara.

Friday night there was a nice event for the kids. After Rehiras everyone had langar together and then the Kids went outside to the Vaisakhi pavillion to hear stories with Mata Guru Meher Kaur. She told a story and then explained about how the light of the Guru was passed on through all the ten Guru’s and then on to the Siri Guru Granth Sahib. The kids were then given glow sticks and little plastic swords ("candles") that had a little light in it. They then walked in a line together to the Gurudwara, bowed before the Guru. It was a fun and cozy night. The kids learned something and they had fun.

I didn’t have my camera for the night event…. but I did take a few pictures from the events today…

It is so nice for your community to come together and do a nagar keertan for this once-in-a-lifetime 300th anniversary event. In my hometown, it takes months and months of fundraising to do a nagar keertan (for our very small population of 500-1000 sikhs), and most of the money just goes to buying food!
    Pictures are very lovely:)

All I wish to say is that….I wish I was also there at Espanola to see the Amrit barkha with my own eyes.
