Siri Guru Granth Sahib Quotes?

Most of you have seen the random Gurbani/Punjabi word on SikhNet and on this blog which is there to help us all learn and understand Gurbani better.

Another service similar to this that would be great to expand on is random quotes from Gurbani. When we read these short quotes they really help remind us of the Gurus messages, and gives it in a short simple way. I have searched around a bit and there are some quotes online but most are scattered on many pages and not a comprehensive list.

First off…do any of you have a list of Gurbani related inspiring quotes? If you do…or even if you don’t…. it would be great if someone could start a list of quotes which we could then import into a database for display on SikhNet.

So, if you are ready to help with some seva here is what you can do:

Browse through the Siri Guru Granth Sahib page by page and copy and paste quotes that you think are inspiring into a Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet. Idealy we would want to capture the following information in different columns.

  1. Quote (Short English Translation of quote)
  2. Author (name of the Guru or poet)
  3. Source Reference (Page number…assuming that it is from the SGGS)

More information could be added to additional columns if you are interested, but I didn’t want to complicate it too much by putting to many requirements. Please let me know if any of you would like to help and taken on this project. I’m sure that any of you who do something like this would learn a lot as you read through the Siri Guru Granth Sahib, and also be helping many others enjoy the Gurus words!
