KPLU News – Being Sikh

SEATTLE, Washington USA (2006-03-21)
“It’s uncomfortable to be stared at because of how you look. But what if your religion requires you to stand out in a crowd? It’s something thousands of people living in the Puget Sound area deal with everyday. They are Sikh. They say while they’re very visible, people don’t know who they are. KPLU’s Paula Wissel went to find out.” (Original Article Here) –

The exhibit “Sikhs: 100 Years in the Pacific Northwest” will be at The Wing Luke Asian Museum in Seattle through April 16th. If you are in the area definitely go check it out.

WHEN KIDS GET INTO THE HIGH SCHOOL AGE GROUP THEY SHOULD START TO WEAR A REGULAR TURBAN SO ITS NOT MADE FUN OF THE SHAPE NAMELY “TOMATO-HEAD” ITS WIERD HOW BEING A DIVERSE SOCIETY THERE ARE REALLY DUMB PEOPLE THAT SEEM TO BE LIKE A PACK OF WOLFS CALLING ANYBODY REALLY STUPID AND CHILDISH NAMES,WHICH TO ME MAKES THEM SOUND LIKE THEYRE BACK IN 1ST GRADE WHEN THEY ARE ACTUALLY LIKE 16-17 YEARS OLD. BUT WHEN THEY WEAR A REGULAR TURBAN THEY SEEM TO BE ASSOSIATED WITH ADULT THINGS,AND TREATED AS ADULT.PEOPLE THAT WRAP THE PATKA IN 3 1/2-5 YARDS OF CLOTH DONT SEEM LIKE A TARGET FOR CHILDISH NAMES,BUT WHEN THEY WEAR THE BUISNESS MAN TURBAN PEOPLE WANT TO TRY TO MESS IT UP CAUSE THEY LOOK SO NEAT AND TIDY.IVE HAD PEOPLE LAUGH AT ME ,WHICH IS FUNNY CAUSE I LOVE MY TURBAN AND ITS LIKE LAUGHING AT THEM FOR WEARING DENIM JEANS,OR A COWBOY HAT.WHAT FUNNY IS MOST OF THEM THAT WEAR COWBOY HATS ARENT EVEN COWBOYS THAT PRACTICE BEING A COWBOY SO THEY TECHNICALLY DONT NEED TO WEAR IT UNLIKE US ACCTUALLY PRACTICING SIKHI WHICH REQUIRE THE HEAD GEAR.I LOVE WEARING A CHAKRA CAUSE THEY DEFINITELY DONT KNOW WHO,WHAT,AND WHY I DO WHICH TENDS TO MAKE THEIR MIND WORK INSTAED OF THERE MOUTH JUST MY THOUGHTS. WAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA WAHEGURU JI KI FATEH!

    …………..I AGREE

Does it really matter what kind of turban it is? I mean come on look at how strong he is inside to not cut his hair and stuff. Seriously!!!!!
