why do people call Sikh women “Singhni’s”.

    They are Kaurs.

Did Guru Ji say that they are Singhni’s?

    Strange

    Respected veer ji
v can call sikh women as Singhnis because when v recite the ardaas v use “Jinah SINGHAN SINGHNIYAAN ne dharam het sees ditte………” so v can call the sikh women as singhnis. i hope i m not wrong veer ji. but if i m wrong plz correct me coz u r older then me and u r having much more experience then me so plz take the care of ur youngest brother on this site. :)

I also prefer to say Kaur. I almost feel like we’re forcing them to be the female version of Singh, when they already have their own special name.

  4. Gurinder says:

I agree that Sikh Women should be called Kaurs, because they are Princess, not linked to Male’s subwoman title.

Women are given great respect in sikh dharma.

    Good point jaspal.

  5. Darsh KHALSA says:

thanx a lot veer ji. to clear my doubt and i too now think in ur way that they have their own identity and must be called kaurs. thanx a lot veer ji once again

Darsh, I know where you are coming from.

You just also realise that the “Ardas” was not created Guru Ji, portions of it has been taken from here and there and was sanctioned by the Akaal Takhat after prominent Sikh Scholars presented it.

The Sikh community needed a “Congregational Prayer”.

In my view, you can do ardas in anyway.

Personally I talk to God, as if God was my BEST friend, I just talk, just talk, thats all. I call it “Spiritual Therapy”.

    Singhs and Kaurs.

Singhni is a coined word created by stupid lost people. Sorry for sounding harsh, but sometimes you gotta layeth the smack down. haha
